Guwahati: Amid severe floods across the state, a pregnant elephant has been recovered dead in Hojai district of Assam on Friday morning.
The body was recovered near Daria Basti village in the Nandapur forest reserve’s Salbagan area.
According to reports, locals discovered the elephant’s lifeless body first and then contacted forest officials.
However, the cause of its death is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, forest officials believe the elephant died as a result of pregnancy-related complications.
Recently, a carcass of an elephant calf was recently recovered in Nagaon district of Assam.
The calf was recovered in a wetland near the Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border in the Salbari district.
