Assam Prepares for Grand Celebrations of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary on National Unity Day

Guwahati— In a virtual meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, District Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) convened to finalize the plans for commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel across Assam.

The celebrations will coincide with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on October 31, honoring Patel’s enduring legacy of unity and integrity.

The Chief Minister has instructed the police, district administration, and the departments of Culture, Tourism, Education, and Sports to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure a grand celebration throughout the state.

The festivities will kick off on October 29 with a “Run for Unity” at Latasil Playground, starting at 7:00 AM. The flag-off ceremony will be led by Hon’ble Minister Smt. Nandita Gorlosa from the Sports and Youth Welfare Department.

This event will be held at district headquarters and co-district levels, encouraging participation from cultural and sports personalities, alongside members of the public. In Dergaon, approximately 3,000 police personnel are expected to join the Run for Unity at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy.

On October 31, the central function will begin with Pad Puja and the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge at the 4th Assam Police Battalion Headquarters. All DCs and SPs are assigned the responsibility of organizing homage and pledge ceremonies, emphasizing a strong commitment to unity, with a notable participation of 3,000 personnel at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy.

The events planned across Assam aim to foster a spirit of unity and reflect the values championed by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, further strengthening the commitment to national integration.
