Assam: Prime Accused in Batadrava mob violence dies in accident
Guwahati: The prime accused in the arson of the Batadrava police station died in a road accident on late Sunday.
The accused identified as Asiqul Islam.
As per the sources of MyNewsNE, Islam died while attempting to flee police custody.
Reportedly, the Nagaon police were returning from a raid at Islam’s house when the accident took place. He was hit by a second police car that was following the first vehicle in his effort to flee police custody.
The police officials informed that they recovered a 9mm pistol and 7 rounds of live ammunition in Islam’s residence.
It may be mentioned, Islam was arrested on Sunday morning after being identified from a video of the incident.
A mob set fire to the Batadrava Police Station on May 21 after a fish seller, Safiqul Islam, was detained at the station and supposedly died while in police custody.
Following this incident, Nagaon district authorities destroyed the homes of seven people accused of setting fire to the police station on May 22.
