Assam: Properties worth lakh rupees gutted at Laongao in Baksa

Guwahati, 18th February: A massive fire erupted at Laongao in Baksa on February 18, engulfing an entire house, agro farm produce, and a godown in a major blaze, resulting in the destruction of properties worth lakhs.

According to sources, the fire originated at the residence of Prabin Khataniyar in Laogaon. Along with paddy, cash, and clothes, several crucial documents belonging to Khataniyar were consumed by the flames.

Suspicions point to a potential short circuit as the cause of the fire. Firefighters from Baghmara managed to extinguish the fire after arriving at the scene with a fire tender.

Just a day prior, on February 17, another significant fire erupted at the New Bongaigaon railway carriage and wagon workshop in Bongaigaon district.

Reports indicate that the fire started at the main store of the railway workshop, resulting in the destruction of many valuables. Prompt response from top railway officials and fire tenders helped contain the blaze.

Amidst the chaos, panicked workers and bystanders immediately evacuated the area as the fire rapidly spread to its surroundings, heightening the urgency of the situation.
