Assam: Protests Erupt in Dimoria Over Encroachment and Recent Clashes
Guwahati, 21st September: Indigenous communities in Dimoria, near Sonapur, have staged large-scale protests against illegal immigrants and encroachers, specifically targeting those involved in a recent attack on the police during eviction drives in the region. Tensions have escalated following the eviction of residents from Kachutali village, sparking widespread unrest.
Local organizations are demanding swift action to remove encroachers from government lands across six panchayats within Dimoria’s tribal belt. They are also pushing for the postponement of boundary demarcation until the eviction process in Kachutali is fully executed, in accordance with a high court directive.
The protest underscores the growing strain between indigenous communities and settlers, centering on land rights, government decisions, and encroachment issues, which have become flashpoints in the region’s legal and socio-political landscape.
