Assam PWD Official Arrested for Bribery
Guwahati, September 22: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption (V&AC) in Assam has arrested Subodh Das, a Sub Divisional Officer of the Palashbari Boko – Chaygaon Territorial Building Sub-Division, for allegedly accepting a bribe. Das was caught red-handed receiving Rs 15,000, part of a larger bribe demand.
The operation was initiated following a complaint from a citizen who reported that Das initially demanded Rs 22,000 to process bills but later reduced the amount to Rs 20,000. The complainant, unwilling to comply, sought assistance from the V&AC.
A sting operation was set up at Das’s office, leading to his arrest after he accepted the partial bribe. The tainted money was seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
A case has been filed at the ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Legal proceedings are now underway as authorities intensify their efforts against corruption in public services.
