Guwahati, 26th December: Raijor Dal party leaders, including Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, have raised serious concerns, alleging that recent encounters in Assam linked to the ULFA-Independent militant outfit are all staged. Addressing the media, Gogoi declared these encounters, including the one in Sadiya where three youths were shot, as fake. He asserted that individuals like Biswanth Borgohain, Manoj Borgohain, and Dipjyoti Neog, allegedly involved in these incidents, were actually contractual workers who lost their jobs and were wrongly targeted after expressing intentions to join ULFA.Raijor Dal party leaders, including Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, have raised serious concerns, alleging that recent encounters in Assam linked to the ULFA-Independent militant outfit are all staged. Addressing the media, Gogoi declared these encounters, including the one in Sadiya where three youths were shot, as fake. He asserted that individuals like Biswanth Borgohain, Manoj Borgohain, and Dipjyoti Neog, allegedly involved in these incidents, were actually contractual workers who lost their jobs and were wrongly targeted after expressing intentions to join ULFA.

Akhil Gogoi questioned the legitimacy of the shootout in Sivasagar constituency involving Pallab Jyoti Gogoi, connected to a grenade blast at Jaisagar, and the encounter of Pranjal Das at Baihata Chariali. He accused the police of orchestrating fake encounters and highlighted discrepancies in the narratives provided by the authorities.

Pallab Jyoti Gogoi, arrested in connection with the Jaisagar blast, sustained injuries in the police encounter and is undergoing treatment. The police claim direct involvement in the blast, referencing a previous arrest in 2019. The ULFA-I, in a statement, also disputes the encounters’ authenticity and demands evidence of the victims’ connection with the proscribed outfit.

Akhil Gogoi targeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and DGP GP Singh, accusing them of reviving the era of fake encounters witnessed in the ’90s. He pointed to DGP Singh’s Facebook posts as precursors to such incidents and called for an end to alleged fake encounters in the state.

Formally demanding a halt to such encounters, Raijor Dal warned the Chief Minister and DGP that this is a clear demand from the opposition party and a legislator like Himanta Biswa Sarma. The party emphasizes the need to address the issue and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights.
