Assam Railway Police Detain Four Bangladeshi Nationals at New Bongaigaon Station

Guwahati, 23rd August: In response to rising tensions in Bangladesh, the Assam Railway Police apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals at New Bongaigaon Railway Station today. The arrests, carried out based on confidential intelligence, involved a targeted operation that led to the detention of the individuals from a train arriving from Tripura.

The group, comprising three young women and one young man, was found to be traveling illegally into Assam. Reports indicate that the young man had crossed the Tripura border and paid ₹25,000 to brokers for a clandestine jungle route into India. The three women each paid ₹15,000 to the same network of brokers. They claimed they had come to Assam in search of employment due to the worsening crisis in Bangladesh.

This incident forms part of a broader trend, with a total of 11 Bangladeshi nationals having entered Assam via Tripura recently. The Assam Railway Police continue to monitor and address illegal border crossings amidst ongoing regional tensions.
