Assam Raj Bhavan Partners with IIT Guwahati for India’s First Digital Governor’s Office Overhaul
Guwahati — In a landmark move toward modern governance, Assam Raj Bhavan has signed a Memorandum of Association (MoA) with IIT Guwahati to launch the Gyan Kalyan Project, the first-ever digital transformation initiative of a Governor’s office in India.
The agreement was formalised in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, with Commissioner and Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram and IIT Guwahati Director Prof Devendra Jalihal leading the signing.
Under this initiative, IIT Guwahati will act as a knowledge partner and consultant, helping build a cutting-edge digital governance ecosystem for the Raj Bhavan. The collaboration will focus on:
• Developing portals like the Chancellor’s Portal, Governor’s Office Portal, and platforms for public engagement, Sixth Schedule affairs, and institutional governance.
• Enhancing administrative workflows, public service delivery, and overall operational efficiency.
• Integrating 360-degree data protection protocols and advanced IT tools for comprehensive digital governance.
The Gyan Kalyan Project aims to digitally empower the Governor’s office to handle its wide-ranging responsibilities—legislative, executive, judicial, statutory, and discretionary—with greater efficiency and transparency.
Meanwhile, IIT Guwahati also achieved a major scientific milestone, with a research team led by Prof PK Giri from the Department of Physics and Centre for Nanotechnology unveiling a multifunctional aerogel on May 1. The ultra-lightweight, porous material shows remarkable promise in wastewater treatment, oil-water separation, and combating industrial pollution.
Together, these developments place Assam at the forefront of both governance innovation and scientific advancement.
