Guwahati: In a poignant gesture of national solidarity, Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika on May 29 visited Bhavnagar, Gujarat, to extend condolences and support to the family of Yatishbhai Sudhirbhai Parmar and his 17-year-old son, Sumit Parmar. The father-son duo tragically lost their lives in a heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, an act widely condemned as the handiwork of Pakistan-backed extremists.
Minister Hazarika’s visit saw him meet Kajalben Parmar, the sole surviving member of the immediate family, at her home. During the deeply emotional encounter, he conveyed heartfelt condolences from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and expressed the profound solidarity of the people of Assam with the grieving family.
“This is a time of great sorrow, and we share in the pain of every Indian mourning this senseless act of violence,” Minister Hazarika stated, calling the attack “a dastardly act that shook the nation’s conscience.” His words resonated with the widespread outrage and grief felt across the country following the tragic incident.
Demonstrating tangible support, Hazarika presented financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to Kajalben – Rs 5 lakh for each of the deceased – along with a personal condolence letter from Chief Minister Sarma. He was accompanied by senior Assam Government official Dr. Om Prakash during the visit, underscoring the seriousness of the state’s outreach.
Reaffirming the spirit of unity against terrorism, Minister Hazarika assured Kajalben, “The people of Assam are with you in this hour of grief,” reinforcing the commitment of the Northeastern state to stand firmly united against all acts of terror.
