Assam Recorded 377 Japanese Encephalitis Cases, 7 Deaths Last Month

Guwahati: At least 377 cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and 7 deaths have been reported in the last month in Assam, the National Health Mission (NHM) informed on Friday.

As per reports, two new fatalities have been reported due to the virus from the Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam.

Reportedly, two new cases of the JE infections were recorded in the last 24 hours from Goalpara and Sonitpur district while taking the total tally to 377.

According to reports, nine colleges and 10 district hospitals of the state have been made ready with ICU and other laboratory testing facilities.

Moreover, they have been designated as Japanese Encephalitis treatment centres, informed officials.

It should be noted that mosquito bites are a common way for Japanese encephalitis to spread. It is present in pigs and birds, where it is carried to mosquitoes that then spread it to people.
