Guwahati: Assam scripted history and etched its place in the record books with “The largest Bihu performance in a single venue.”The massive attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records involved over 11,000 Bihuwotis and Dhuliyas.

The record was set on April 13 at about 530 p.m., at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was originally expected to attend, but the event was postponed until April 14.
The mega Bihu performance’s goal was to break the previous record for the biggest Bihu dance performance in one location. With this amazing initiative, the government of Assam led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma determined to make the Rongali Bihu of 2023 a big celebration.

Long before the big event, performers were rehearsing for it and practice were held all around the state to choose the best of the best for it.

CM Sarma had earlier expressed the hope that the occasion will highlight Assam and its rich cultural legacy.

The state government had set goals for two world record attempts, one for the largest Bihu dance in a single frame and the other for the largest (Dhuliya) drummer ensemble.
On this occasion, the state government also got the certificate for “Assamese Gamusa,” which had been awarded a GI tag.
