Assam: Reservation for Specially-Abled persons increased to 4 per cent

Guwahati: The Assam Government has decided to increase the reservation for specially-abled candidates in the government sector to 4 per cent which was earlier 3 per cent.

The decision was taken by the State Government after a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The cabinet further decided that from April 1, 2022, only online registration will be applicable for Employment Exchange in the state. Citizens will be able to register their names online with their Adhar Card numbers. Offline registration will be allowed only till 31st March 2022.

The cabinet also decided that Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Singh will be given the responsibility to conduct an inquiry into the Jorhat boat accident. He will have to submit a report within one month. Cabinet further directed the Jorhat Police to register a criminal case against those responsible for the incident.

Apart from this, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog will constantly monitor the construction of the Jorhat-Majuli Bridge with additional support from the state government.

The cabinet further decided that police verification would not be required for those selected for appointments in government jobs. They would have to provide self-declaration which would be uploaded on a portal, the cabinet said. It added that if self-declarations are disputed with facts, appropriate steps would be taken against the candidate.

The Cabinet also stated that the diploma issued by government-approved distance learning institutes would now be considered at par with on-campus courses for government jobs.

Cabinet also decided to constitute Assam State Organic Mission Agency (ASOMA). Mission Organic Value Chain Development, Assam, and National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM), Assam would work under ASOMA.
