Assam: Residents of Gerimari No. 1 Nab Drug Dealer and User, Hand Them Over to Police
Mangaldai, 1st September: In a bold act of community vigilance, residents of Gerimari No. 1 near Mangaldai apprehended two individuals involved in drug dealing and usage on September 1. The suspects, identified as Kartik Das, a notorious drug dealer, and Ajay Sarkar, a drug user, were caught red-handed by locals.
The residents, who had long suspected Das’s family of involvement in the illegal drug trade, took matters into their own hands after observing increased drug-related activity in the area. Upon apprehending the suspects, the residents recovered two full containers, several empty containers, and syringes, further substantiating the allegations against them.
On the day of the arrest, the vigilant community members detained Kartik Das, tied him up, and handed him over to the police. The decisive action by the Gerimari residents highlights growing frustration and concern over the impact of drug trafficking on local communities.
The police have taken both individuals into custody and are conducting further investigations to uncover the extent of their involvement in the drug trade. This incident underscores the critical role that community participation plays in combating the drug menace in Assam.
