Assam Rifles and Customs Seize Contraband Worth Over Rs 52 Lakhs in Mizoram Operations

Northeast Desk, 14th July: Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department Champhai, Mizoram, achieved significant seizures in operations conducted on July 12, 2024, resulting in the confiscation of illegal goods valued at over Rs 52 lakhs.

In the first operation at New Hruikawn, Zokhawthar, authorities recovered 30 cases of foreign origin beer, four cases of foreign origin cigarettes, and 1264 foreign origin e-cigarettes. The seized items, valued at approximately Rs 18,54,000/-, were intercepted based on specific intelligence inputs.

Simultaneously, at Melbuk, Zokhawthar, Assam Rifles seized four hongs of Heroin No. 4, weighing 48 grams. The street value of the seized heroin is estimated to be around Rs 33.60 lakhs. During this operation, a woman from Folkland ‘E’, Aizawl, was apprehended.

Following the successful operations, the recovered contraband and the apprehended individual were handed over to the Police Department, Zokhawthar, and Customs Department, Champhai, respectively, on July 12, 2024, for further legal proceedings.

These operations underscore the collaborative efforts to curb illicit activities and maintain security in Mizoram’s border areas.
