Assam Rifles and Customs Seize Rs 1.27 Crore Worth of Foreign Cigarettes in Tripura; Two Apprehended

Khowai, Tripura – In a joint operation, Assam Rifles and the Customs Department seized foreign cigarettes valued at approximately Rs 1.27 crore in the Teliamura area of Tripura’s Khowai district.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the forces intercepted a Bolero pickup vehicle on Monday, confiscating 10.4 lakh foreign cigarettes and detaining two individuals involved in the transport.

The operation led by Assam Rifles successfully uncovered the high-value contraband, highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb illegal trade across border regions. Both the seized items and the detained individuals have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal action.

Assam Rifles emphasized the importance of coordinated operations to counter the smuggling of foreign goods, underscoring their commitment to regional security and law enforcement in collaboration with customs officials.

The Customs Department is expected to pursue further investigation to determine the origins and intended destinations of the seized goods.
