Assam Rifles and Manipur Wildlife Department Rescue Endangered Species
Northeast Desk, 23rd July: In a coordinated effort, the Assam Rifles and the Manipur Wildlife and Forestry Department successfully rescued several endangered species from various locations across Manipur. The operation resulted in the rescue of two leopard cats, one Asian leaf turtle, and two reptiles – a cobra and a copper-headed trinket snake.
These animals were initially captured by tribal hunters in Kangpokpi district. The Assam Rifles, renowned for their active participation in humanitarian and conservation missions, played a pivotal role in securing the animals from potential harm.
Following their rescue, the animals were handed over to the Central Forest Division of the State Wildlife and Forest Department. The department will oversee their rehabilitation and subsequent release back into their natural habitats.
This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Wildlife and Forestry Department to protect and preserve endangered species, ensuring their survival and well-being.
