Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police Seize 200kg of Explosives Near Aizawl, Arrest Local Resident
Northeast Desk, 3rd May: In a joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, approximately 200 kg of gelatin sticks and 200 detonators were seized in the Silaimual area on the outskirts of Aizawl. The operation, carried out on Tuesday, led to the arrest of a 45-year-old local resident from Mamit, as reported by the Assam Rifles in a statement.
The authorities impounded the vehicle used for transporting the explosives, enhancing the effectiveness of the operation. This seizure follows another significant confiscation by the Mizoram Police, who seized 8,000 gelatin sticks and 1,500 detonators in Hnahthial town near the Myanmar border on the same day.
The coordinated efforts between the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police underscore their commitment to maintaining security and preventing illegal activities, particularly in areas prone to such incidents. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the source and intended use of the seized explosives, ensuring the safety of residents and communities in the region.
