Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police Seize Drugs and Smuggled Goods Worth Rs 4.34 Crore in Joint Operations
Northeast Desk, 3rd May: In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police have seized heroin and foreign cigarettes valued at over Rs 4.34 crore in two separate operations, according to a statement released by the paramilitary force.
The joint team, acting on intelligence inputs, conducted a raid at the Falkland area in Aizawl, leading to the seizure of 598 grams of heroin on Tuesday. Two individuals, including a resident of Manipur, were apprehended in possession of the contraband, estimated to be worth Rs 4.18 crore.
In a subsequent operation carried out on Wednesday, Assam Rifles intercepted 22,000 packets of foreign cigarettes worth Rs 16 lakh at Lungpuk village in Siaha district, south Mizoram. The cigarettes were smuggled from Myanmar, highlighting the ongoing challenges of cross-border illicit trade.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Police, in collaboration with volunteers of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), seized eight fully loaded trucks carrying dried areca nuts smuggled from Myanmar during a joint operation at Seling in Saitual district on Wednesday. The value of the seized goods is yet to be determined. Ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the smuggling operation.
These successful operations underscore the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb the flow of illegal drugs and smuggled goods in the region, contributing to the maintenance of law and order and the safety of communities.
