Assam Rifles Apprehends Myanmar National with Methamphetamine Tablets Worth Rs 45 Crore
Northeast Desk, 15th October: Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force in India, announced on Sunday that they have successfully apprehended a 24-year-old Myanmar national in the Champai district of Mizoram for possessing a substantial quantity of Methamphetamine tablets. The estimated worth of the seized contraband is an astounding Rs 45 crore.
The operation leading to this significant arrest was conducted based on actionable intelligence. Assam Rifles personnel swiftly acted on the tip-off, initiating an operation in Zokhawthar, a locality situated in Champhai district.
During the operation, the forces managed to seize approximately 1.5 lakh Methamphetamine tablets, weighing around 15 kilograms. The confiscated drugs, valued at Rs 45 crore, were found in the possession of the Myanmar national.
In line with the established legal procedures, the Assam Rifles authorities handed both the seized contraband and the accused Myanmar national over to the Champhai police. Further legal proceedings will follow.
This operation came shortly after another successful joint operation on the preceding Thursday, in which Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Mizoram’s Excise and Narcotics department, apprehended two residents of Assam. They were found to be in possession of a significant quantity of Methamphetamine tablets, specifically 40,400 tablets, with an estimated value of Rs 12.12 crore. This operation transpired in Zote village, also situated in the Champhai district.
The consecutive operations reflect a persistent effort by the authorities to curb drug trafficking and the circulation of illegal narcotics along the border areas, further emphasizing the commitment to maintaining the security and integrity of the region.
