Assam Rifles Chief Reviews Operational Readiness in Conflict-Hit Manipur

Imphal: Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, visited the conflict-affected districts of Manipur on February 8 to assess the operational preparedness of the forces. Accompanied by senior officials, he conducted a detailed review of security arrangements and ongoing operations in the region.

During the visit, the officials inspected the Sector Headquarters at Somsai in Ukhrul and the Forward Company Operating Base at Tusom. The team engaged with troops stationed in the area, acknowledging their efforts in maintaining stability. They also interacted with ex-servicemen and Veer Naris, underscoring the Assam Rifles’ commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.

Lt Gen Lakhera took the opportunity to honor community contributions by presenting the DGAR Commendation to C. Hopingson, the Village Headman of Bungpa Khullen. The recognition highlighted Hopingson’s significant efforts in uplifting underprivileged sections of society, reinforcing the importance of civil-military cooperation in fostering resilience in conflict-hit areas.

The Director General also received a comprehensive briefing from Deputy Inspector General Brig Sandeep Singh, covering key operational and administrative aspects. The discussions focused on the security challenges in the region and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of Assam Rifles in tackling them.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh departed for Delhi on the evening of February 8 via a chartered flight. While officials confirmed his visit to the national capital, the purpose of his trip remains undisclosed, fueling speculation about potential political or administrative discussions at the central level.
