Assam Rifles Crack Down on Drug Trafficking in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 7th March: Assam Rifles personnel have intensified their efforts to combat drug trafficking in Mizoram, with recent operations resulting in significant seizures of heroin. In Champai district, 1.3 kg of heroin, valued at Rs 9.6 crore, was recovered, and a Myanmar national was apprehended in connection with the contraband.
Following a tip-off, security forces conducted a search operation in Zokhawthar village near the Mizoram-Myanmar border, leading to the arrest of the smuggler and the seizure of heroin concealed in 100 soap boxes. The 35-year-old Myanmar national is believed to have smuggled the contraband into India from the neighboring country.
Additionally, in Champhai district, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Mizoram Police, confiscated 936 grams of heroin, worth Rs 6.55 crore, as part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking. The operations underscore the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities and maintain security in the region.
