Assam Rifles Delivers Crushing Blow to Drug Smuggling in Mizoram, Seizing Meth Worth Crores
Champhai, Mizoram – In a significant operation lauded by authorities, the Assam Rifles has once again proven its mettle in the fight against drug trafficking, seizing a massive haul of methamphetamine tablets in the Zote area of Champhai district on Thursday. The meticulously executed search, based on specific intelligence, led to the recovery of over 11 kilograms of the illicit substance, a consignment valued at a staggering Rs 33.33 crore in the international market. The confiscated narcotics have since been handed over to the Champhai Excise and Narcotics Department for further investigation and the necessary legal proceedings.
This latest success underscores the heightened vigilance of security forces in the region and follows closely on the heels of another major interception just last week. On July 24, the Assam Rifles intercepted a significant smuggling attempt near National Highway-37 in Awangkhul, Manipur, seizing 1,430 cases of alcohol. That consignment, comprising more than 32,000 bottles and cans, was estimated to be worth Rs 1 crore. In that operation, two individuals were apprehended and subsequently handed over to local authorities, along with the seized goods. The back-to-back seizures highlight the unwavering resolve of the Assam Rifles to curb cross-border criminal activities and maintain peace and security in the northeastern states.
