Kohima: Kohima witnessed a moment of recognition and gratitude as the Assam Rifles honoured four individuals from Nagaland for their exceptional contributions to society, peace-building, and strengthening civil-military relations.
In a ceremony held at Kenguruse Hall of the 13 Assam Rifles, Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR), Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, presented medals and citations to senior social activist K. Neingunyu Sekhose, artist Imna Yaden, and two influential young women, Kenei Ritse and Neiketuno Sechü. Each of them has made a mark in their respective fields, shaping narratives of progress and empowerment in the region.
K. Neingunyu Sekhose, a respected community leader from Kohima, was recognised for his longstanding service as the former president of the Angami Public Organisation and the Northern Angami Public Organisation. His association with the Assam Rifles has been instrumental in strengthening ties between the civilian population and the military, fostering peace, and supporting various community-driven initiatives. His leadership has played a crucial role in enhancing trust and cooperation in the region.
Imna Yaden, a celebrated artist, was honoured for his remarkable contribution to the regional music industry. His work has resonated deeply with the people, particularly through his ‘Vande Mataram’ album, released on the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day, and his composition of the theme song for the Captain Kenguruse MVC Memorial Football Tournament. His music has not only been a tribute to the Assam Rifles but has also instilled a sense of pride and patriotism in the hearts of many.
Kenei Ritse, the reigning Miss Northeast 2023, has emerged as a powerful advocate for mental health awareness, drug abuse prevention, and youth empowerment. Her active involvement in social initiatives has helped bring crucial issues to the forefront, inspiring young people to take charge of their lives. Similarly, Neiketuno Sechü, Miss Nagaland 2023 and a representative of Nagaland at Miss India Grand 2024, has used her platform to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage while advocating for social causes. Both Ritse and Sechü have played a key role in the ‘Breaking the Silence’ campaign in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, addressing mental health challenges and drug abuse concerns affecting the youth.
During his address, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera expressed deep appreciation for the contributions of these individuals, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in driving positive societal change. He highlighted the pressing issues facing Nagaland’s youth, particularly the growing drug menace, and urged the younger generation to take responsibility for building a brighter future. He underscored the importance of learning from history while staying rooted in values that promote progress and unity.
“As long as we live in Nagaland, the soil, air, and water of the state are part of us,” General Lakhera remarked, reaffirming the strong and enduring bond between the Assam Rifles and the people of Nagaland. The event served as a testament to the spirit of collaboration, where military and civilian efforts converge to shape a more resilient and progressive society.
