Assam Rifles Hosts Third Edition of Half Marathon in Shillong, Advocates for ‘Fit India Movement’

Northeast Desk, 26th November: Assam Rifles orchestrated the third edition of a half marathon on November 26 at the headquarters of the Directorate General Assam Rifles in Laitkor, Shillong, with the aim of promoting the ‘Fit India Movement.’

This inclusive run, accessible to individuals aged 18 and above, encompassed both men and women, symbolizing the spirit of unity in diversity and fostering national unity. Set against the backdrop of the picturesque hills of East Khasi in Laitkor, the event witnessed robust participation from serving personnel and families of Assam Rifles, 101 Area, Eastern Air Command, CRPF, CISF, SSB, and Meghalaya Police.

In addition to the local participants, cross-country runners from across the country engaged in both physical and virtual modes, challenging the Armed Forces and CAPFs participants. The marathon comprised two categories, namely 21 kms and 10 kms, each tailored to specific age groups.

A total of 747 individuals participated in the 21 kms half marathon, with 694 taking part in the 10 kms run, spanning both physical and virtual modes.

The event’s chief guest, Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauchan, lauded the participants’ enthusiasm and spirit, extending appreciation to both runners and spectators alike.
