Assam Rifles, Police Crack Down on Drug Trade with Major Seizures in Cachar
Guwahati: In a decisive blow to the narcotics trade, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Department (Mizoram), intercepted a significant drug consignment in Dholai Village, Cachar, on January 6, 2025.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 123 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately ₹86.10 lakh, and the arrest of an individual linked to the illicit trade.
Officials have handed over the contraband and the suspect to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and legal proceedings.
In another successful anti-narcotics operation, Bazaarichhara Police, acting on confidential intelligence, raided a residence in Salamona village, leading to the confiscation of nearly 1,000 Yaba tablets.
The banned stimulant, known for its high addiction potential, has an estimated black-market value of ₹5 lakh. The alleged supplier, identified as Munaf Uddin, was immediately taken into custody for further interrogation.
Authorities believe the suspect may have links to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region. Investigators are now working to uncover possible connections and dismantle the supply chain.
Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal drug activities and have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. These recent crackdowns highlight the intensified efforts to combat the growing menace of narcotics in Assam.
