Assam Rifles Seize Arms and Ammunition in Mizoram Operation
Aizawl: In a targeted operation conducted in Mizoram’s Champhai district, the Assam Rifles successfully recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and other military-grade supplies.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team of personnel carried out a sweep in the area stretching from Vaphai to Saikhumpai village. The search, undertaken by quick reaction teams, yielded significant findings, including an assault rifle, nine grenades, and 36 rounds of ammunition.
The seized items were subsequently handed over to the local police at Dungtlang for further legal action. This operation is part of an ongoing effort to maintain security and curb the flow of illegal arms in the border regions. The seizure follows a series of recent successes by law enforcement in the state. Earlier this week, the Mizoram Police intercepted two major drug consignments in separate incidents, striking a significant blow to drug trafficking rings.
In one such event on August 17, a white EECO van was found abandoned near Hnahlan village. The driver fled into the dense jungle upon the approach of a police patrol from the Hnahlan Beat Post, leaving behind a large quantity of contraband. These coordinated efforts by security forces underscore a determined stance against illicit activities plaguing the border areas.
