Assam Rifles Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 15.4 Crore in Manipur, Suspect Arrested
Imphal: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles seized a massive drug consignment worth Rs 15.4 crore in Thingkangphai village, Churachandpur district, Manipur.
Acting on specific intelligence, security forces launched the operation on March 3, 2025, under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), resulting in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer.
According to Assam Rifles, the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Thangsuanman, a resident of M Tanglian Village, was caught red-handed while attempting to finalize a drug deal in a white Mahindra Bolero.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 1.5 kg of suspected heroin concealed in 132 soap cases. The arrested individual, along with the seized contraband, has been handed over to Churachandpur Police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Mizoram Police, intercepted a separate drug consignment in Mizoram’s Champhai district. Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 60.63 crore were seized in the Crossing Point One area of Zokhawthar, highlighting the persistent efforts to curb cross-border drug trafficking.
Security forces have intensified anti-narcotics operations in the Northeast, with multiple intelligence-based raids yielding significant results. In recent days, similar operations in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district led to the apprehension of individuals involved in illegal arms and drug trade, reinforcing the region’s crackdown on organized crime networks.
