Assam Rifles Seizes Heroin and Contraband Drugs Worth Rs 130 Crore in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 16th February: In the past 45 days, the Assam Rifles have conducted successful operations leading to the recovery and seizure of heroin and contraband drugs worth Rs 130 crore in Mizoram, officials confirmed.
Since January this year up to February 15, the Assam Rifles have confiscated contraband drugs valued at Rs 130 crore in Mizoram. This includes the recovery of 4.009 kg of Heroin No 4 and 3,32,308 tablets of Meth-Amphetamine, with a total worth of Rs 123.49 crore, along with contraband items worth Rs 8.18 crore, as reported by the Public Relations Officer of IGAR (East) in a statement on Friday.
Among the recent seizures, Assam Rifles recovered 480 grams of heroin valued at Rs 3.36 crore and apprehended an individual in the general area crossing Point-I, Zokhawthar Champhai district, in Mizoram on February 14. The individual apprehended was subsequently handed over to the police.
The operation was conducted jointly by Assam Rifles and a representative of the Police Department in Zokhawthar, based on specific information. The seized heroin and the apprehended individual were handed over to the Police Department in Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings.
The ongoing smuggling of contraband items remains a major concern for the state of Mizoram and India, emphasized the statement issued by the authorities. Such efforts by the Assam Rifles underscore their commitment to curbing illicit activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
