Northeast Desk, 7th June: In a coordinated effort with Mizoram Police and the Customs Department, Assam Rifles successfully recovered heroin, foreign-origin cigarettes, and beer valued at Rs 26.84 lakh in Melbuk, Zokhawthar, Mizoram, on June 5, 2024.
During the operation, authorities seized 25 grams of Heroin No. 4, 79 cases of foreign-origin beer, and 5 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes. One individual was apprehended in connection with the contraband.
This seizure follows a significant drug bust on June 2, where Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police arrested three individuals and confiscated heroin worth Rs 9.7 crore in three separate operations in Champhai district. In these earlier operations, 146 grams of heroin were recovered from Melbuk village, 22 grams from Zote, and 1.2 kilograms along the Champhai-Aizawl road.
The arrested drug peddlers and the confiscated heroin were handed over to state police for further legal proceedings. This series of successful operations highlights the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles and local authorities to combat smuggling and drug trafficking in the region.
