Assam Rifles Seizes Heroin Worth ₹1.54 Crore in Mizoram, Two Women Arrested
AIZAWL: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department, apprehended two women with heroin valued at ₹1.54 crore in Champhai district on November 19.
The operation, conducted in Zote village, resulted in the recovery of 220.13 grams of heroin from the suspects, according to a statement issued by the Assam Rifles. The accused were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further legal proceedings.
The Mizoram Police confirmed that an investigation into the case is underway to uncover potential links and networks behind the smuggling operation.
This operation follows another major seizure last week, where the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Excise & Narcotics Anti-Narcotics Squad, confiscated 55 grams of heroin worth ₹35.75 lakh in Aizawl. During that operation, two Indian nationals and one Myanmarese national were arrested.
These back-to-back successes underline the intensified efforts by the Assam Rifles and law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region, a persistent issue given its proximity to international borders.
