Assam: Rohingyas Held in Karimganj
Guwahati: Two Rohingyas were apprehended from Badarpur Railway Station in Karimganj district of Assam on Monday.
In a joint operation, Assam Police along with Kolkata Military Intelligence department arrested the Rohingyas.
The arrestees identified as Jamal Hossain and Amir Hakim. Both of them are residents of Myanmar.
According to reports, both of them were arrested from platform number 1 of the railway station.
The police seized Rs. 10,230 (Indian currency notes) in cash, 980 takas (Bangladeshi currency notes) and a mobile phone from their possession.
Investigations revealed that Jamal had arrived in India from Bangladesh in 2012 and had resided at a mosque in Baramulla of Jammu & Kashmir, between 2016 and 2018.
On the other hand, Amir had come to India six months ago and was also living in Jammu and Kashmir.
The pair was heading towards to Bangladesh when they were detained at Badarpur Railway Station, police informed.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Military Intelligence Department said that an investigation has been initiated to discover any connections with any militant outfit.
