Assam: Sacred Artifacts Stolen in Morigaon
Guwahati: A major theft in Sonarigaon, Morigaon town, has left the community in shock after sacred religious artifacts were stolen from the Sensoku Namghar’s ‘Monikut’ and ‘holy alter’.
The crime, which took place overnight, specifically targeted religious items, sparking widespread concern among locals.
Reports indicate that burglars struck nine households in the area, making off with valuables from private prayer rooms. Among the stolen items were the Salagram idol, brass and copper utensils, and various religious artifacts. Additionally, sacred scriptures, including the ‘Gunamala Puthi’, were taken from the Namghar itself.
This theft is part of a troubling trend in the region, where a sharp rise in similar crimes has been reported over the past month. Nearly fifty Monikuts have been targeted by burglars in recent weeks, alarming residents and raising fears about the safety of religious sites.
CCTV footage from the latest incident has revealed that a single individual was likely responsible for the crime. Authorities are currently analyzing the footage as part of an ongoing investigation into the series of thefts. Local police are urging residents to remain vigilant as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
