Lakhimpur: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the newly constructed Bordeurigaon “Kundiku” (Deosal) House at the sacred grounds of Bordeurigaon Kundimama in Lakhimpur district. The event also celebrated the 400-year jubilee of the revered site, attracting a large gathering of devotees and dignitaries.
In his address, Sonowal stressed the importance of preserving Assam’s indigenous heritage, acknowledging the Deori community as one of the state’s ancient and culturally significant groups. He emphasized the need for the younger generation to stay connected to their roots and the community’s glorious traditions.
“The Deori community has enriched India’s national heritage with its deep-rooted history,” Sonowal remarked. “It is essential to remember our past as we move towards the future, and we must preserve the values that have shaped our culture.”
Sonowal also emphasized the potential of spiritual tourism in Assam, drawing comparisons to the Maha Kumbh Mela and urging that Kundimama become a prime destination for spiritual seekers. “Religious tourism can drive Assam’s cultural and economic growth,” he stated.
Further, the minister underscored the importance of perseverance and self-discipline in achieving progress, advocating for a mindset that values hard work and resilience. He also stressed the interconnectedness of spirituality and environmental conservation, highlighting the role of nature in ensuring a clean, sustainable future.
As part of his visit, Sonowal laid the foundation stone for several projects under the Deori Autonomous Council, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the region’s development.
The event was attended by several prominent leaders, including MP Ranjit Dutta, MLAs Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Naba Kumar Doley, former MLAs Debananda Hazarika and Kesharam Bora, and Bhairav Deori, Chief Executive Member of Deori Autonomous Council.
