Assam: Sarbananda Sonowal Leads in Dibrugarh as Lok Sabha Election Results Unfold

As real-time updates from the Lok Sabha election results come in, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sarbananda Sonowal is leading by 8,669 votes in the Dibrugarh constituency of Assam.

Polling in Assam was conducted across three phases: April 19, April 26, and May 7. The state’s 14 constituencies were divided accordingly, with five voting in the first phase, five in the second, and four in the third. Voter turnout was substantial, with 78.25 percent recorded in phase one, 81.17 percent in phase two, and 85.45 percent in phase three, out of a total of 24,301,960 registered voters.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP dominated by winning nine out of the 14 seats. Despite this, its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), did not secure any seats. The Congress won three seats, while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and an independent candidate each secured one seat.

With Sonowal currently leading in Dibrugarh, the BJP is hoping to maintain its stronghold in Assam. The ongoing vote counting process is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
