Assam: Scheduled Communities in Sri Bhumi District Rally for Unified Political Voice Ahead of 2026 Polls
Guwahati: With the 2026 Assembly elections casting a long shadow, a groundswell of unity is emerging among Scheduled Communities, aiming to amplify their political presence.
In the Ramkrishnanagar Assembly constituency, within the Sri Bhumi district, the significance of their collective voting power, estimated at 25,000 ballots, is becoming increasingly apparent, potentially swaying the re-election of incumbent BJP MLA Vijay Malakar.
In a strategic move to consolidate their political influence, Scheduled Caste groups are intensifying their outreach through community gatherings in Ratabari.
Following a significant conference held by the Pathni community in the preceding month, the Namasudra community recently organized a large-scale assembly in the secluded Cheragi region. Thousands convened in open fields, engaging in crucial discussions about their shared future.
A spokesperson, addressing the vast assembly, underscored the critical absence of a prominent political figure representing the Namasudra community.
This leadership void, he asserted, has impeded advancements in political, economic, and social spheres.
“Our political marginalization stems from a lack of unity. Our collective strength is paramount,” he declared. The conference participants passionately called for unified support for any candidate nominated from within their community for the 2026 elections. A strong emphasis was also placed on the critical role of women’s education in driving comprehensive community development.
The conference commenced with heartfelt tributes to Guru Harichand and Guru Guruchand Thakur, revered figures within the Namasudra community. Attendees pledged their unwavering commitment to the gurus’ teachings and resolved to collaborate steadfastly for the advancement of their people.
