Assam: School Headmaster Accused of Embezzling Mid-Day Meal Funds in Sribhumi

Kaliganj: A serious allegation of financial misconduct has been leveled against Abdul Muqtadir, the headmaster of Chaudhury Bazar Primary School (No. 466) in Kaliganj, Sribhumi district. Assistant teacher Sumana Choudhury has accused the headmaster of misappropriating nearly Rs 9 lakh meant for mid-day meals.

According to Choudhury’s complaint lodged at the Kaliganj Police Station, the irregularities have been ongoing since 2017. The issue came to light after a state government directive to return unused mid-day meal funds. However, no funds were returned from Chaudhury Bazar Primary School, prompting Choudhury to delve deeper into the matter.

Her investigation revealed significant discrepancies in the utilization of the allocated funds. The Block Development Officer subsequently intervened and conducted an inquiry at the school. A meeting of the school’s management committee was also convened to address the issue, but the proceedings turned contentious, leaving Choudhury feeling threatened.

In her complaint, Choudhury has appealed for protection and demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged financial irregularities. She has also directly approached the Chief Minister, urging swift action to ensure justice and accountability.
