Guwahati: A science teacher of Kalibari Higher Secondary School of Karimganj district of Assam was arrested for his alleged involvement in sexually molesting a class nine student from Hailakandi on Thursday evening.
The accused teacher identified as Ananda Swarup who is a resident of Sonbeel Kalibari area under Ratabari constituency of the district.
Swarup was arrested after the victim girl’s father made a police report in Sadar police station.
According to reports, local neighbours gathered in the leased residence of the teacher in the town’s college road area after the victim said that she had been phoned by the teacher who reportedly attempted to molest her.
Reportedly, after assaulting the teacher, local residents handed him over to police officials.
It needs to noted that Swarup stays in a rented house in Hailakandi where he provides private tuition to students.
It may be mentioned that a case number 137/22 under sections 354(A), 294, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been filed against him.
