Assam: Section 144 Imposed in Patharkandi Following Assault Incident

Guwahati, July 22 In response to the recent violent assault on a class XI student, Karimganj District Commissioner Mridul Yadav has imposed Section 144 in the Patharkandi area. This regulation, effective immediately, prohibits any gatherings of more than five people, as well as dharnas, road blockades, and the carrying of objectionable items, including sticks.

The unrest began after the assault, which led to significant protests by Patharkandi College students. The situation intensified when demonstrators blocked the Assam-Tripura National Highway on July 21. The imposition of Section 144 aims to restore public order and prevent further disturbances in the region.
