Assam: Section 163 imposed in Nagaon after tiger scare

Guwahati, 4th July: In the wake of incessant rains causing widespread flooding, the Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary in Nagaon district faced an unexpected challenge as wild animals were displaced from their habitats. Among them, a leopard ventured out of the sanctuary, alarming local residents on Wednesday. Adding to the tension, a tiger was also spotted outside the sanctuary, heightening fears in northern Nagaon.

Nagaon District Magistrate Narendra Kumar Shah (IAS) swiftly implemented stringent measures under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code to manage the situation. Restrictions include a ban on gatherings of five or more persons in the affected areas, and carrying firearms, weapons, or any items that could provoke the animals. Loud noises or any disturbance to public order are strictly prohibited in the vicinity where the tiger has been sighted.

These measures aim to ensure public safety and facilitate the efforts of Environment and Forest Department officials in safely guiding the tiger back to its natural habitat. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as residents cooperate in mitigating the risks posed by wildlife displaced by the floods.
