Assam: Seized Vehicles Outside Dispur Police Station Add to Ganeshguri Traffic Woes

GUWAHATI — Residents of Guwahati’s bustling Ganeshguri area are voicing their frustration over seized vehicles parked along the roadside near Dispur Police Station, exacerbating traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest marketplaces. The vehicles, lined up outside Gopal Boro Government Higher Secondary School, have become an additional obstruction for commuters navigating the already crowded streets.

Local resident Senjam Raj Sekhar took to social media platform X to highlight the issue, sharing a video of the parked vehicles and writing: “Dispur Police Station has mistakenly parked these vehicles in the busy Ganeshguri Bazaar. Maybe it’s time to find these majestic rides a more suitable home. P.S. Photo taken during early morning.” The video underscored the inconvenience caused even during off-peak hours.

The post drew attention from Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), who responded on the platform: “We are working on this problem confronting us. Hopefully, a solution shall be found soon. Thanks for pointing out.”

Despite the acknowledgment, police and civic authorities have yet to take tangible action to address the issue. Residents have called for the relocation of the seized vehicles to a less congested area, urging authorities to consider the impact on daily commuters and local businesses.

The incident has sparked broader conversations about urban planning and the efficient use of public spaces in high-traffic zones, highlighting the need for a long-term solution to ensure smoother traffic flow and better management of seized property in the city.
