Assam: Sema Naga Youth Suspected Victim of Human Trafficking in Longtong 2 Village
Guwahati, 7th February: In a distressing event, a young member of the Sema Naga community from Longtong 2 village, situated under the jurisdiction of Lekhapani Police Station in the 83rd Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district, has been missing for over a month. Mokata Sema, son of Khuito Sema, disappeared from Vijayawada Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh.
Khuito Sema, the father of the missing youth, shared the heart-wrenching account of his son’s disappearance. Mokata, along with two other youths from their village, embarked on a journey to Bangalore in search of job opportunities on January 12. However, tragedy struck just two days later, on January 14, when Khuito received a devastating call informing him that Mokato had gone missing from their train compartment at Vijayawada Railway Station. Despite their relentless efforts, there has been no information or whereabouts of Mokato since then. The family promptly filed a missing person report at Lekhapani Police Station.
Expressing grave concern over the situation, Kahoto Sema, Chairman of the All Assam Sema Naga Council, highlighted the alarming trend of youth disappearing from Longtong village in the Tirap region of the 83rd Margherita Constituency. He voiced suspicions of human trafficking involvement, citing numerous reports of youths falling victim to trafficking gangs.
Both Khuito Sema and Kahoto Sema issued a fervent appeal to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Police DGP G P Singh to intensify efforts in locating Mokato Sema and other missing youths from Longtong village. They urged immediate action to ensure the safe return of the missing individuals and called for a thorough investigation into the suspected human trafficking activities plaguing their community.
