Assam: Senior Agriculture Officer Found Absent from Flood-Hit Gohpur, Raises Concerns Over Farmer Aid

Guwahati, 11th July: In a startling revelation, Sonmoni Saikia, a Senior Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) assigned to the flood-affected region of Gohpur in Assam, has been found working in Biswanath instead of his designated post. Despite being appointed to fill a critical vacancy in Gohpur, it is alleged that Saikia has not worked a single day there.

Saikia reportedly secured an attachment to the Agriculture Office in Biswanath, continuing to receive his salary for the Gohpur position under questionable circumstances. This has led to significant concerns among the local population, particularly as 80 percent of Gohpur’s farmers have been deprived of essential benefits, including funds from the PM Kishan Nidhi scheme, due to the absence of a dedicated agriculture officer.

The issue came to light when journalists visited the Gohpur agriculture office, prompting Saikia to hastily return from Biswanath, accompanied by the District Agriculture Officer (DAO). Upon questioning, the DAO defended Saikia, who claimed responsibility for disaster management in Gohpur but was unable to provide details about recent flood events.

The situation has sparked outrage among Gohpur residents, who are demanding accountability and immediate action to ensure that local farmers receive the support and resources they are entitled to.
