Assam: Senior Citizen Duped of ₹48,000 by Fake Online Share Trading Company in Margherita
Guwahati, 11th September: A senior citizen from Margherita has been defrauded of ₹48,000 by a fraudulent online share trading company. Sudip Sarkar, an LIC agent, fell victim to the scam, which was perpetrated by an individual claiming to represent the company “Trading FX.”
On May 13, Bidhan Acharjee from Margherita approached Sarkar with an offer to open an account with Trading FX, supposedly a legitimate online share trading company with a branch office in Dibrugarh. Trusting Acharjee’s assurances, Sarkar initially paid ₹900 to open the account and later invested ₹48,000, expecting returns on his investment.
However, Sarkar has reported that he has not received any returns on his investment and has been unable to contact Acharjee. He has also highlighted that there are several fraudulent activities occurring in the Margherita sub-division, with Acharjee specifically named as a key player in the scam.
In response to the incident, Sarkar has appealed to the Margherita Sub-Divisional Administration (Civil) to conduct an investigation into the matter and take action against those involved in the fraudulent activities. The case underscores the growing concern over financial scams targeting unsuspecting individuals.
