Assam: Senior Congress Leader Rana Goswami Likely to Quit Amidst Party Turmoil, reports

Guwahati, 25th February: Amidst escalating tensions within the Assam Congress party, insider sources suggest that senior Congress leader Rana Goswami is contemplating leaving the party.

Reports indicate that a pivotal meeting transpired at Rana Goswami’s Tocklai residence on the evening of February 24, during which he voiced concerns about his perceived lack of significance within the party hierarchy. Consequently, he has purportedly decided to sever ties with the party in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speculation mounts regarding Rana Goswami’s potential defection to the Bharatiya Janata Party, further intensifying the political upheaval.

Rana Goswami has previously served as a two-time elected representative in the Assam Legislative Assembly, securing victories in the 2006 and 2011 elections from the Jorhat constituency. Additionally, he assumed the role of Working President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on July 24, 2021.

Meanwhile, a wave of defections from Congress ranks to BJP and AGP has recently unfolded, significantly altering the political landscape of the state.

Despite assurances from Congress regarding the party’s steadfastness and its commitment to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with bolstered support from allied parties within the INDIA alliance, the prevailing crisis hints at a challenging road ahead for the party in the lead-up to the impending polls.
