Guwahati, September 4, 2024 — In the Chirang area of Assam, an unfortunate occurrence that has shocked the community is that another little girl has been sexually assaulted. The most recent case came from Basugaon, where a person going by the name of Gopal Barman is accused of raping a youngster.
This crime happened soon after another horrifying incidence in Runikhata, Chirang, where a day earlier a video of a gang rape went viral on social media. A video of the Basugaon rape case involving Barman has also gone viral, evoking widespread indignation and condemnation in a terrifying echo.
In response to a swift report by the victim’s family, Gopal Barman, the culprit, was taken into custody by Basugaon police. According to the FIR filed on September 4, 2024, he has been charged under several sections, including C/NO: 29/24 U/S 329(4)/115(2)/75/64 BNS Act R/W Sec 4 of the POCSO Act.
The incident has led to fresh worries about children’s safety in the area and the increasing risk that these kinds of crimes may be shared online, worsening the anguish experienced by the victims and their families.
