Assam: Shuvang Pran Kashyap Clinches ACA U17 Chess Title on Independence Day

Guwahati: The 79th Independence Day ACA U17 Chess Tournament 2025, organised by Achiever Chess Academy on August 15 at its Rukmininagar premises, concluded with an exciting finish, featuring 75 participants, including 21 rated players.

Shuvang Pran Kashyap emerged as the overall champion, remaining unbeaten with an impressive 5.5 points out of 6 rounds. Swapnil Kar, Pragyan Puzari, Sarasvat Deka, and Ameya Gupta followed in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th positions, respectively. The tournament was conducted by the academy’s chief coach Khanindra Barman, with IA Monimala Sinha as chief arbiter and Rajdeep Saikia as deputy arbiter.

Category winners included:
• Under-7: Gaurav Sarma (1st), Nimish Pratim Das (2nd), Idhaant Kashyap (3rd)
• Under-9: Jishan Kashyap Bora (1st), Harshil Niyor Saikia (2nd), Akanksha Kalita (3rd)
• Under-11: Jyotishman Das (1st), Unmukt Raj Das (2nd), Shravast Sharma (3rd)
• Under-13: Chanakya Medhi (1st), Maharnav Kalita (2nd), Shri Rajdeep Borah (3rd)
• Under-15: Arnav Talukdar (1st), Niveer Nitul Saikia (2nd), Sagnik Bharadwaj (3rd)

In the girls’ category, Nistha Saikia took 1st place, followed by Priyanchi Dutta and Priyana Nath. Barnil Baishya secured 1st in Best Academy, with Jyotiraditya Shivam and Bikiron Roy Choudhury in 2nd and 3rd. Daoringsheng Borgohain was named the youngest player of the tournament.

The event marked a spirited celebration of Independence Day, blending talent, competition, and sporting enthusiasm.
