Assam: Significant Cash Seizure During Lok Sabha Polls Raises Concerns

Guwahati, 31st March: Amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha Polls and under the Model Code of Conduct, a Static Surveillance Team (SST) achieved a notable feat with the seizure of Rs 30 lakh in cash on Saturday night in Silapathar.

The SST, stationed at Namchuk on National Highway 515 within Silapathar police station’s jurisdiction, intercepted a Duster vehicle with registration number AR 01 M 4435. Behind the wheel was Nonong Jamh from Arunachal Pradesh, en route from Itanagar to Pasighat.

A search of the vehicle uncovered the staggering amount of Rs 30 lakh in cash. Prompt action by the Silapathar police led to the seizure of both the money and the vehicle.

Sources within the police department confirmed an ongoing investigation into the matter. The discovery of such a significant sum during the election campaign period has raised suspicions and drawn attention to potential illicit financial activities influencing the electoral process.

As the investigation progresses, updates are expected, reflecting the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat electoral malpractices and uphold democratic norms.
