Assam: Significant Facelift Planned for Udalguri Railway Station

Guwahati, 6th February: The interim Budget 2024-25 has allocated Rs 10,369 crores for railway infrastructure projects in the Northeast. Among these initiatives, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) targets the redevelopment of 60 stations in the region, earmarking Rs. 14.31 crore for the transformation of Udalguri railway station in Assam.

Udalguri station, a vital stop on the Rangiya – Murkongselek section under the Rangiya Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), is set to undergo a substantial facelift. The proposed changes include extending the existing station building and enhancing its facade to introduce modern amenities like retiring rooms and waiting areas for passenger comfort.

The redevelopment plan emphasizes inclusivity with the addition of Divyangjan-friendly ramps, upgraded toilet facilities, two lifts, and a 5-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge to improve accessibility. Key features of the project encompass separate toilet blocks, improved parking facilities, and beautification of the circulating area.

Moreover, all platforms will receive shelters and be resurfaced using materials like marble stone and tiles for convenience. Entry and exit paths will undergo development to ensure better accessibility for passengers. Tenders have already been awarded for the mentioned works, with foundation work for the new station building already underway.

Simultaneously, additional passenger amenities such as Coach Guidance Boards, Train Information Display Systems, platform extensions, and easy-access water booths for Divyangjan are being implemented. The anticipated upgrade of Udalguri railway station aims to create new opportunities, generate employment, boost business prospects, and enhance travel convenience for passengers in the city and surrounding areas. The redevelopment aligns with the vision of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, ushering in a new era of modern and inclusive railway facilities in the Northeast.
