Assam: Significant Gold and Silver Seized from Night Bus on NH-27
Guwahati: Bhawanipur Police achieved a notable success in their efforts to curb illegal activities, intercepting a substantial amount of precious metals on National Highway 27.
Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, law enforcement officials brought a night bus, identified as Sanjeevani with registration number AR 20A 4601, to a halt near Bhawanipur Regional College.
The Sanjeevani bus, traveling from Barpeta Road towards Kakopathar in the Tinsukia district, became the focus of the police operation.
During a thorough inspection of the vehicle, authorities discovered and confiscated 2 kilograms of silver and 140 grams of gold. The precious metals were found in the possession of a passenger named Firoz Ali, who, according to initial reports, boarded the bus at Howly.
The estimated value of the seized silver is approximately Rs 1.8 lakh, while the recovered gold is valued at around Rs 14 lakh in the current market. This significant seizure underscores the ongoing challenges in combating the movement of unaccounted wealth.
Following the successful operation, Firoz Ali was immediately taken into police custody. Authorities have initiated a detailed interrogation to uncover the origins of the gold and silver and to determine their intended final destination. This breakthrough highlights the vigilance of the Bhawanipur Police in their commitment to maintaining law and order within the region.
